1. What does IELTS stands for?

IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System.

2. What does IELTS mean?

IELTS is an English Language Test designed to evaluate an international candidate’s proficiency in using English Language as a form of communication. The test assesses each candidate in four areas of communication: listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

3. Why IELTS exam is required?

IELTS is an English language exam that is required to be taken by international candidates considering studying or working in a country where English is the main language of communication. Most popular countries where IELTS is accepted for university admissions are the UK, Australia, New Zealand, USA, and Canada.

4. Who can take IELTS exam?

IELTS can be taken by anyone irrespective of age, gender, race, nationality, or religion. However, the IELTS test is not recommended for those under 16 years of age.

5. Who accepts IELTS?

Organizations that recognize IELTS in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, USA, and Canada:
Universities, schools, colleges, and training organizations.
Government departments and immigration authorities.
Professional and industry associations.
Multinational companies and employers.

6. Why is IELTS important?

IELTS is conducted for people seeking educational and job opportunities in English-speaking countries so that their ability to overcome the linguistic gap and undertake communication efficiently in a foreign country can be assessed.

7. What is General IELTS exam?

The IELTS General Training test is suitable for those applying to study below degree level. This includes an English-speaking school or college. It can also be taken for work experience or other employment training. IELTS General Training is also required for migration to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK.

8. What is Academic IELTS exam?

The IELTS Academic test is suitable for those wanting to study in an English-speaking environment or university (higher education). You can also take IELTS Academic for professional registration purposes. The test measures if you are ready to begin studying in English.

9. When can I get my paper based IELTS results?

If you take the IELTS paper-based test, you can preview your IELTS results online 13 calendar days after your test date. Your Test Centre will notify you when they become available.

10. When can I get my CDI IELTS results?

If you have taken the computer delivered IELTS test, you can preview your results online within 2-5 days after your test date.

11. Is paper based IELTS easier than CDI IELTS?

Although one is not easier than the other, the questions are however in the same format. The advantage with CDI IELTS is that you will get your results with in 5 to 7 working days compared to paper based IELTS. You only need normal typing speed for the test. The one advantage you do get on CDI IELTS is that you don’t have to rub or cut your answers with an eraser as you would have on a paper based test, given that you are sitting for the test on a computer. You can easily change your answers while completing the given section. At NZ300 we offer headphones for both CDI IELTS and paper based IELTS to ensure a great listening test experience.

12. Can IELTS be taken online?

IELTS Indicator is an online test that can be taken from the comfort and safety of your home. The test includes four skills – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, and you will receive an indicative score for each. Your performance will be marked by IELTS examiners and you will receive your result within seven days.

13. Can IELTS be rescheduled?

Request for pre-test cancellation of your IELTS test must be made strictly 5 weeks before the test date via email or in person only. Telephone cancellation will not be accepted. Candidates will receive a refund (less a 25% of administrative fee).
Computer-Delivered IELTS (CDI) dates are subject to change, this can be the result of technical issues that result in downtime or any other reason, in the event that a date needs to be rescheduled to another convenient date, there will be no refund applied and the student can choose another available date to take the test.

14. Can I sit for IELTS exam without passport?

You must have a valid passport to be eligible to sit an IELTS test.

15. How are IELTS score calculated?

Your overall band score is calculated by taking the mean score of the four test components (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking). The score for each component is equally weighted. Your overall band score is rounded to the nearest whole or half band.

16. What IELTS score is required for UK?

This will depend on the requirement of the degree of a specific educational institute/university. The required scored also varies for certain migrations requirement and are given UK government website.

17. What IELTS score is required for Canada PR?

For the express entry you will require 8 7 7 7 (8 required in listening and 7 required in other 3 modules). For other PR IELTS requirement please refer to Canadian migration website.

18. What IELTS score is required for Study in Canada?

The required IELTS score varies from one institution to another which are provided in their website.

19. When are IELTS exams conducted?

IELTS exam are conducted every month in 140 countries all over the world. There are limited dates for the paper-based test. But there are multiple weekly dates available for the CDI test.

20. Who accepts IELTS indicator?

Currently, more than 280 leading universities around the world have welcomed IELTS’ new online test, IELTS Indicator, specifically designed to help students who cannot access a language test due to precautions against the spread of Covid-19.

21. Who conducts IELTS worldwide?

IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English.

22. Who conducts IELTS in New Zealand?

British Council and IDP IELTS are the two official conducting bodies of the IELTS Exam in New Zealand.

23. What is the IELTS requirement for New Zealand residency?

You and your family can show that you speak and understand English by passing a test. Your test results must be no more than 2 years old when immigration accept your visa application. If you are the principal applicant, the minimum score you need in IELTS is Overall score of 6.5 or more. If you are the partner or a dependent child the minimum score you need in IELTS is Overall score of 5.0 or more.

24. What is the IELTS requirement for studying in New Zealand?

Generally, to study in New Zealand, you need to score a minimum 6.5 overall in IELTS, with no band less than 6.0 for your postgraduate degree. And when you apply for your undergraduate options, you need to score a minimum 6.0 overall in IELTS

25. Who owns IELTS exam?

IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English. As internationally focused organisations, we are committed to academic excellence and cultural understanding – ideal providers of international English testing.

26. Why is IELTS result delayed?

Test results are delayed for mainly two reasons. British Council may want to check your test again and they may conduct a quality control check on how the test is managed. Your results may be cancelled after it has been issued if any irregularity is identified. You may be required to retake one more IELTS component.

27. Why IELTS is difficult?

The world’s leading test of English language proficiency, IELTS is not difficult in itself. In less than 3 hours, it assesses your abilities in listening, reading, writing and speaking. The exam conditions, including the length and format of each part, the types of questions and tasks included, the methodology used to correct the test and so on, are standardized. That simply means that the same conditions apply to everyone who takes the test and the types of questions of each section are predictable. You can trust it. 28. What is UKVI IELTS?

In addition to the IELTS General Training and IELTS Academic tests, IELTS for UKVI is a UK government-approved Secure English Language Test (SELT). This specific IELTS test can be used to prove your English language abilities in support of a UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) application.

29. For how many years is IELTS score valid?

The IELTS score validity is of two years counting from the date of receiving it. For all candidates, the IELTS validity period is the same.

30. Can we pass IELTS without coaching?

This will depend on student to student. But it is advisable to take adequate preparation to be familiarized with the IELTS exam format, marking criteria and test day preparation. Taking IELTS coaching can help avoid taking multiple tests to reach IELTS goal.
