Writing is an art if you know how to express yourself well. This skill cannot be built just by learning perfect grammar. This is something that you build over time by listening, and reading various high-quality literature, then thinking some more.
You need to take your pen and paper, and sit down. You need to see with your mind’s eye. You need to see what others cannot. You need to see the picture that only you want to paint. This is how you build your writing skill. We will discuss some tips on how to write your IELTS essay.
If your mind is blank like a spotless canvas, then you cannot write about anything. You need to accumulate a lot of information about various things. Thus, you need to pick up something to read.
The best thing you can do in the middle of your busy hour is have a look at the headlines of your favorite online or off-line newspaper. You need to choose one topic. Bring your pen and paper, or open a word processor. Now, write down the topic. This will be here even at the end of the day even if you forget about it.
When you have some time, read about the topic. Search online about the news. Read in depth about it. Try to read as much as you can from various sources. Keep track of new words that you come across. Take notes about the topic, so that you can use them later.
Search videos on the news topic. Watch and listen carefully. Write down important new information and new words. You will use them later during your writing.
Now that you have a lot of information on the topic. Relax a bit, and start thinking. Try to form a clear picture in your mind. Try to look at the story as if you are a reporter and you cannot miss any information when you write about the topic. Slow build up your concept about the topic. See, if there is any gap in your information or not.
Now, take a piece of paper and rearrange the points or information you have collected according to the correct order. Then, begin writing. Write as much as you want. Then have someone or a tutor correct your writing.
List the weaknesses you have and then work on them when you write on the same topic for the second time. Always do an elaborate revision after your writing is finished. Then show the writing to your tutor again.
You can do the first four steps as many times as you want on other topics. However, write at least 3 to 5 times on the same topic. It is about learning how to represent your thoughts clearly, not how many words you write everyday. Quality matters.
Take any IELTS book and pick a writing task of your liking. Now, read and analyze the task. If you think you have enough idea already to attack the essay topic, then list the points you want to include in your essay. Write the essay with a clear introduction, a body text, and a conclusion.
Introduction will state what you are going to talk about, you will provide the supporting evidence in the body text and explain your opinion, and then review the points written in the body text in conclusion. Always revise your writing. Manage your time well. Do not write more than what is necessary, because time is limited.
Hopefully these tips on how to write your IELTS essay will be helpful for you. Please, remember, practice makes you perfect.
